How we helped our client build a unique Social Application?
Overview
Our client wanted a social media application which lets users be a part of a social hub related to their daily events.
From setting reminders, plannings updates, writing blog posts to share dining updates with friends and sending birthday invitations, the app had to offer a variety of stuff.
They wanted the app to let users connect to their friends and family, make plans with them to meet, shop, dine, etc.
The users would be able to do social planning, creating travel plans and sharing content with their connections using their calendar.
They wanted the application to render a seamless social media experience to the users in addition to the wide spectrum of features it had to offer.
Challenges
The application needed to be designed and developed with a wide range of options
The application needed to be designed and developed with a wide range of options for the users like managing daily activities with a calendar, create invitation and greeting cards, promote a business, planning vacations, blogging, sending autographed birthday wishes, etc.
A personal login and profile for the users had to be built wherein they can see all their activities and connections at one place.
A home page had to be created which would allow the user to start off with any activity with just a tap or a click. Also, a menu system had to be designed to allow easy navigation across all the functions of the application. It should let users instantly jump to different tasks.
Search functionality had to be facilitated to let users find information within the web application.
Unique Social Media App
To begin with the project, we proposed a complete application development solution consisting of designing and developing the Android and iOS Mobile Application and Server-Side Application Development.
We designed a well equipped user home page with every option available for the user to quickly jump around different tasks.
The Home page consists of one-click access to:
- Dashboard
- Reminders
- Planning updates
- Social updates
- Travel updates
- Invitations, etc.
On the user home page top menu, we implemented interactive drop down menus which made it easy and quick to select micro tasks and thus saving a few clicks and taps for the user. We made it easier to search invitations, tasks, dining or shopping updates, and everything else by implementing a site search toolbar at the top. A consolidated dashboard was built based upon a calendar interface. This calendar gives the users the information about their daily schedule, making it trouble-free to track meetings, reminders, dinner plans, birthdays, etc.

To let users share their thoughts, reviews and experiences, a blogging platform was designed within the application. Depending upon their choice, the users are facilitated to blog privately or publicly within their network. The blog category can be anything from travel or sports to business or professional. Users can also utilize their blog to promote their business.
We created a photo album section wherein the users can upload and store their photos and select photos to be displayed as their profile picture.
For sending invitations, a rich set of invitation templates were created to let users select the best suitable one as per the type of the event. They can also include personalized messages in the invitations.
We implemented an interface which lets users find local restaurants and book tables for breakfast, lunch, dinner or simply a coffee or tea. The users can share these details with their friends to let them join in.
A shopping planner was developed to let the users plan, create a shopping list, share details and review their shopping experience.
A social update feed was created wherein users can see and interact with the latest updates from their connections.
We also developed a set of functions in the application which makes it effortless to plan a travel. The users can search for and click points of interest on a map to add them to their travel itinerary.
This makes it hassle-free to plan which spot are best to visit first, second and so on. It also gives information about how to reach the places and the different channels to commute.
After the users have made a travel plan, they can share it with their connections.
For seamless layout and application structure, we used HTML5 and CSS3.
To speed up the creation and maintenance of the application, we utilized Symphony PHP framework, and MySQL for database management.
Our JavaScript proficient team used Angular JS for front-end development, Node.js for server side and jQuery for client side scripting.
